Each year M&P Legal offers a prize to Lower Sixth students at the Isle of Man’s independent school King William’s College based on essay entries on given current legal topics. This is to encourage students in their final years at school who may be thinking about a career in law to tackle some thorny legal issues and draft a logical assessment of how they see the situation.

The firm is very pleased to confirm that the standard of this year’s entry was good and that the winner is Lower Sixth student Jake Kelly. This year’s competition was a “Brexit” special with all essay topics based on the legal aspects of the EU conundrum, particularly as the Isle of Man‘s constitutional relationship with the EU is quite different from the UK’s, albeit a Brexit will have some impact here. The essays were written before the referendum took place.

The M&P Legal law prize was formally handed to Jake Kelly at the King William’s College Founders’ Day ceremony on 28 May 2016 by the guest of honour former pupil of King William’s College Flight Lieutenant David Bellamy BSC Hons RAF (pictured).
