Congratulations to sixth former Ernst Hoffman for winning the 2025 M&P Legal Essay Prize. The annual competition invites Sixth Form students at King William’s College to write an essay on a topical issue.
Ernst’s winning essay, on the importance of law as a compulsory school subject, impressed our judges with its well-researched content, international examples, and clear insight into the distinction between statute and case law. We were particularly pleased with Ernst’s practical examples of why it's crucial for young people to know the law and the balanced discussion of its pros and cons. The readable style and the appropriate depth given the complexity of the topic was to be commended.
