As part of its corporate social responsibility M&P Legal pledges to donate an allocated amount of money to good causes. In the past these charities have been chosen based on letters of request that have been received. However, this year a new initiative has been introduced where each member of the support staff has the opportunity to nominate a cause that is important to them.
So far three local organisations have benefited from this scheme and two others further afield; Laxey Under-10s Football Club, the Manx Youth Band, who are seeking sponsorship for a new building, and Robert Owen House, where accommodation is provided for relatives and carers of Manx patients at the Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital. Other donations have also been made to the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, which aims to increase awareness of muscle disease and provide care for sufferers, and the BBC Wildlife Fund that supports a range of conservation projects across the world.
This scheme has proved to be a huge success and as one member of staff said 'It is so nice to be able to nominate a chosen cause for the firm to support. There are so many good causes around and being able to individually choose a different charity each year is such a nice thing to do'.
