M&P Legal has strengthened its employment and litigation teams with the recruitment of a Manx advocate with much prior business experience.
David Keates has joined M&P Legal from another firm of Manx advocates where last year he qualified as an advocate. Prior to retraining as an advocate David was senior manager in the financial crime team of a large bank where he held the position of Money Laundering Reporting Officer. David has previous experience of working in risk management in the credit department of a major lender. Before working in the banking industry, David worked for the UK police as part of an economic crime unit, concentrating on offences of fraud and money laundering and the confiscation of criminal assets. David also sits on the panel of the Isle of Man Employment and Equality Tribunal and has thereby gained valuable employment law experience.
David joins M&P Legal to work in their respected employment and litigation teams. He will focus on various aspects of employment law including unfair dismissal claims, discrimination, whistleblowing and redundancy advice together with drawing on his vast industry experience in compliance and regulatory work to advise corporate and other clients on anti-money laundering procedures and disputes that can arise. He also gives necessary compliance training to clients.
David was educated at Elizabeth College in Guernsey before reading law at Reading University and completing his Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in Chester. He stated: “I am really pleased to join M&P Legal with the breadth and quality of legal work this firm handles. I feel I can contribute to both the employment and the litigation teams in a meaningful way and can draw on my other business experience when giving practical, commercial and holistic advice to the firm’s clients.”
M&P Legal’s managing director John Aycock commented: “David is a terrific package in that he has plenty of high quality business and enforcement experience away from the law but has also shown a remarkable propensity to adapt to legal life very rapidly. He is a great addition to our already talented team of advocates. We are known for our work in Isle of Man employment law and general dispute and regulatory work and David’s presence here adds to that.”
M&P Legal was originally founded in the 1980s and was the first Isle of Man law practice to incorporate as a limited company in 2000. Its innovative approach and dedication to its clients have earned it recommendations in independent legal directories such as the Legal 500 and Chambers.
