Posted on November 14, 2024
← Back to Info CentreWhen there is no Will, as the next of kin or close relative of the deceased, you should apply for a grant of letters of administration. This legal document, when granted, confirms that you will have authority as an administrator to organise the deceased’s estate.
In order to make an application, the Probate Registry will need to be provided with the following:
- Values: Details of the value of the estate of the deceased in the Isle of Man only. (The Registry is not interested in all of the deceased’s assets)
- Original Documents: An original copy of the death certificate and Original Will
There is no Inheritance Tax or death duties in the Isle of Man but the Court Application Fee is determined on the value of the deceased’s estate (in the Isle of Man only).
- Does not exceed £10,000 £31.50
- £10,000.01 - £50,000 £188.50
- £50,000.01 - £125,000 £544.50
- £125,000.01 - £250,000 £1,178.00
- £250,000.01 - £500,000 £2,356.00
- £500,000.01 - £1,000,000 £4,712.00
- Exceeds 1,000,000 £9,422.50
If the only asset is one policy of life assurance which exceeds £50,000.00 and the policyholder resides outside of the Isle of Man, the fees are £279.50.
