Advocate Lorcan O’Mahony has been appointed as M&P Legal’s head of corporate/commercial.

Lorcan joined the practice in 2023 with substantial Manx legal experience both in private practice and as In-House counsel with a local trust and corporate service provider. Since joining, he has strengthened his reputation as a skilled corporate lawyer able to turn his hand to employment and corporate work while maintaining a practical and client friendly approach. Lorcan was made a director of M&P Legal in January 2025.

Having worked as an adviser in the Manx finance sector, Lorcan is well aware of the need for realistic commerciality in all legal dealings. His commercial work to date has involved leading in the sale and buyout of local and multinational businesses, assisting in significant commercial property transactions, and advising boards and shareholders on dispute avoidance and resolution.

Advocate Chris Murphy recently retired from practice after 34 years with the firm. He first qualified in England as a Solicitor in 1990 having undertaken training with Bermans Solicitors in Liverpool. With family connections on the Island he relocated to take up a position with Gough & Co where he also gained admission to the Manx Bar. In 1992 he joined established Advocate Timothy Mann and the firm of Mann & Co and within a few years entered into partnership with him. Additional partners joined the firm as it expanded and eventually evolved into what is now M&P Legal, a highly regarded successful law firm known particularly for its niche areas in commercial, litigation, employment, personal injury and insolvency law.

Chris, 61, was a constant throughout this process helping build the practice over the years. He was instrumental in the firm changing from a partnership to an incorporated legal practice in 2000, becoming the first Isle of Man law firm to do so, subsequently followed by many. He built his reputation initially as a commercial litigator with notable successes in a number of high-profile cases before establishing the firm’s company/commercial department. In that area he achieved further notable highlights advising as Isle of Man counsel on numerous high value transactions working closely with some large international law firms in the City of London and beyond. Of particular note was his work in relation to the first ever full listing of an Isle of Man limited partnership on the London Stock Exchange. He also undertook ground breaking work in the Island’s newly emergent online gaming sector in the early 2000’s, assisting a household name in securing one of the first ever Online Gambling Licences issued in the Isle of Man.
