Each year M&P Legal provides a law prize to candidates in the Sixth Form of the Isle of Man's only independent school, King William's College. The winner enjoys custody of a cup and a financial prize donated by M&P Legal. This year, Lower Sixth student, Ellen Jarvis, won the M&P Legal prize. She received the trophy and her winnings at King William's College Founder's Day on 28 May 2011 from the Guest of Honour, Sir David Wilson.
Ellen wrote an impressive essay on whether the right to trial by jury should remain fundamental to the criminal justice system. King William's College Governor, Jane Bates, who assessed the entries, commented that all of the essays entered by the King William's College Lower Sixth students were impressive but Ellen's essay had shown a particularly logical and orderly debate of the pros and cons of trial by jury and a measured and well thought out conclusion.
M&P Legal congratulates Ellen Jarvis on winning the prize for 2011.
