Douglas law firm M&P Legal has won an award from an international body for being the top employment law firm in the Isle of Man. Global Law Experts has confirmed M&P Legal as the winners of the Isle of Man employment law firm of the year for 2010.

Stephen Sweeney of Global Law Experts confirmed that the awards are based on recommendations, visits to the Global Law Experts website and LinkedIn users. The recommendations are then combined with Global Law Experts' own independent research to create a short list of firms for each key country and practice area. At a meeting in October 2010 the awards panel discussed the short listed firms and decided this year's winners. The short listed firms were judged on client testimonials, key cases from the past 12 months, legal rankings, overall reputation, publication contribution, speaking engagements and the performance and standing of the team's individual lawyers.

Global Law Experts confirmed that the employment law award for the Isle of Man was close this year. The head of M&P Legal's Employment Unit, advocate John T Aycock received the most nominations of any lawyer in the Isle of Man in the field of employment law and Global Law Experts said this clinched the award for M&P Legal.

John commented on the award as follows; "I am a great believer in word of mouth recommendation and referral and it is therefore very pleasing to see that Global Law Experts have chosen their winners based on such research. Employment law, like many other niche legal areas, is not an area to be dallied with. Our mantra therefore is that those who practise employment law need to be specialists and need to know the area thoroughly. I think it is this dedication to detail that has led to M&P Legal having a good reputation for giving sound advice on Manx labour law."

John went on to indicate that following the Employment Act 2006 there has been a substantial increase in demand for employment legal advice and that with the equality and other legislation in the pipeline he feels that Manx businesses will continue to need quality labour law advisors to assist in navigating the ever increasing framework of employment legislation and regulations.
